Did Alcohol Withdrawl Cause Amy Winehouse’s Death?

As authorities wait for toxicology reports on the cause of death of singer Amy Winehouse, speculation is mounting that alcohol withdrawal is the reason Winehouse died at her home on July 23.

During a speech for at the 27-year-old’s funeral on July 26, Winehouse’s father Mitch said the she had promised to abstain from alcohol and has been true to her word. A source close to the family told the media that doctors had advised Winehouse to gradually reduce her amount of alcohol intake, but she stopped drinking completely. The family suspects the shock this caused her body to be the likely cause of death, the source said.

Winehouse was found lifeless by her members of her security team in her London home and was pronounced dead on the scene by medical authorities. Over the past several years, the signer had substance abuse problem that was well-documented by the media. She had been in and out of rehab clinics, and was most recently in rehab for one week at the end of May 2011. She had also battled an eating disorder and had problems with emphysema.

Autopsy results on Winehouse were inconclusive and toxicology results are expected within the two weeks.

Its a very sad world we live, where people think it’s ok to speak ill off the dead, and make fun and ridicule them. Its so easy these days for anyone, let alone a young musician thrown into a world where drugs ect are thrown at them, to not feel pere pressure to take drugs and over indulge in drink.
Amy had gone to rock bottom and was on her way up again, she was looking forward to a clean happy life. But sadly it seems the damage had already been done, we shud not point fingers and say horrid things , but instead feel sad that a young life has been taken far too early.

I wish Amy’s parents , family and friends all my love, and feel abit off comfort in the fact that she will be sadly missed by sooo mant people.

    S.xxx Rest in peace.

It’s sad to see. For all those who think they are better, I urge you to think twice. There are only 2 drugs from which you can die from withdrawals… opiates and alcohol. You can overdose on lots, but these two will kill you when you attempt to get sober.

Unless you have been there, you have no idea how hard it is to quit something when your brain knows you get more or you die. The brain is programmed to survive. Let’s give these singers/ actors a bit of a break. At a young age they are flung into a world of drugs and alcohol and expected to make decisions that go against what everyone else in their world is doing.

All it takes is a couple mistakes and then decisions are no longer under their control. If your brain is addicted to opiates and alcohol, then your addiction will make your choice… willpower and personal values are rendered useless as the brain switches into survival mode.

If Amy’s death was by alcohol withdrawal, then she was killed for doing the right thing. Don’t blame her for being naive… How many of us drink alcohol? I bet a good percentage of the people you know are addicted to alcohol, and might not even be aware.

You hear all these warnings not to do drugs. You here that they are hard to quit, will kill you… and since they are illegal you know they are wrong.

How about when you got to the liquor store. Do you see a sign that says “Warning, you may become addicted to alcohol. If you are addicted, seek medical attention immediately as withdrawals are deadly!”?

Nope… I personally see alcoholics regularily in my daily life. These people can’t quit, won’t ever quit, and will die from drinking. Not one of them thinks they will die if they quit…

Amy didn’t think she would die if she quit. EVERYBODY drinks!!! Obviously there are exceptions, but the average person accepts alcohol, and very few people realize just how deadly of an addiction it causes.

Remember, if Amy died from an alcohol withdrawal, then she was attempting to do the right thing. Let’s not blame her because, just like most of us, she did not realize that alcohol withdrawals are DEADLY!

No one other than her family and friends should even care about her being dead, the woman was given an opportunity many would die for with her career and she throws it all away at the age of 27 by abusing alcohol and drugs? We should pity her why? Much better people who work hard and are much better role models and they get no recognition for what they did in their life, its sad for the family but to everyone else she should just be an example of a bad role model and how not to live your life, we all saw it coming and I dont care if she was getting help, she had plenty of resources and help available to her from the very beginning, she was an embarassment to England and a national joke, she was banned from St Lucia for causing such havock.
